Top Ten Marvel (MCU) Movies to watch over quarantine
December 8, 2020
If you are stuck at home with a Disney + account, then now is the best time to catch up on the 23 movie long Infinity Saga. Today, I’m bringing my opinion of the top ten Marvel movies to watch (or rewatch). Disclaimer: this is not my opinion on necessarily the best movies, so many are origin movies.
- Doctor Strange Starting off is a great introduction to the mystical side of the MCU. Although a basic origin story, similar to Iron Man but with magic, this movie still has charm. The movie has great visual effects, maybe the best in the series. It also introduces the key characters of Stephen Strange as well as one of the MacGuffins: the Time Stone.
- Ant-Man Another “origin story” movie, Ant-Man is filled with likable characters and fun action sequences. This movie also sets up the characters of Scott Lang and Dr. Pym, both of whom play a key role in the finale. This movie is very charming and action-packed, but, like many Marvel movies, has a forgettable villain.
- Avengers Age of Ultron The weakest of the Avengers movies… but weakest doesn’t mean bad. This movie sports some of the most memorable fight scenes in the whole saga. It contains subtle nods toward the prime objectives of the infinity stones. The “age” lasts only about a week, making the movie tend to feel slightly overstuffed.
- Spider-Man Homecoming Another great introduction to a key character. This movie not only builds the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker, but is able to put a fresh twist on the character of Spider-Man. This movie is fun, easy to watch, and includes a great villain.
- Guardians of the Galaxy An extremely funny entry that introduces the space avengers. While unique in its tone and plot, it also helps to establish another one of the Infinity Stones. This is an important movie to watch to understand both the space aspect of the MCU and this team.
- Thor Ragnarok Another very funny movie that helps to explain the new look of Thor. It revamps the character and motives of Thor, while still having a part in the MCU overall. The biggest complaint about this movie is the tone remains humorous throughout and has very few serious parts.
- Captain America Civil War This movie plays a surprisingly large role in Infinity War. With the largest roster of characters seen so far, it still somehow doesn’t feel bloated. This movie has awesome fight scenes and an interesting perspective into each character’s mindset. It also introduces fan favorite Black Panther.
- Iron Man The one that started it all. This movie practically wrote the formula for a superhero movie. A likable main lead, ending credits teasing the future, and awesome fight scenes. The journey of Tony Stark is set in motion along with the rest of the ensemble cast for this movie saga. A great and easy to watch ride from start to finish.
- Avengers An unprecedented movie, this not only included over 6 major characters, but was able to tie together the first 5 Marvel Universe movies that came before. Filled with memorable moments and creative uses of action. It also included the great recurring villain Loki and a tease for the big bad to come.
- Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame While this is technically 2 movies watching this as a single 5 hour movie really drives home the epic conclusion. Watching the aforementioned movies really helps build suspense for the final showdown. All of the Infinity Stones and stories built for years finally culminate in this epic movie. These two movies combined include one of the best villains in movie history: Thanos. Not only does it wrap up almost every character’s story arc, but also changes the universe forever.
If you are feeling bored I highly recommend watching these movies, if not all of the MCU movies. Below you can comment which Marvel movies are your favorite.
