Fly The W

It has been three years since Chicago’s own won the long-awaited championship, but after getting a taste, Cubs fans just want more. The stacked roster and new management was promising and many thought that multiple rings would come with this dream team. After winning it all in 2016, the Cubs returned to right where they left off until getting knocked out by the Dodgers in the semifinals of the 2017 playoffs. A year later, Chicago’s hopes of raising the trophy were cut short again after falling to the Rockies in the Wild Card game.

As the October of 2019 approaches, Cubs fans start to reminisce as they go all in for this year’s playoff run. The Cubs have maintained a positive record this year but the Brewers and Cardinals are playing just as well. As Nicky Garcia, ‘21, noted, “as the end of the season nears, it is essential for the Cubs to grind out a couple more wins. Otherwise their hopes of even reaching the playoffs may be crushed.” Playing the Cardinals in two series’ gives Chicago a chance to put a dent in the game difference between the two and a chance to get the top spot in the NL Central. If the Cubs fail to capitalize, the Brewers will have the opportunity to jump in front and steal the wild card spot as they are trailing Chicago’s heels.

This has many fans focused on the pennant chase. “The only thing north side Chicago baseball fans can think about right now is the atmosphere that comes with the Cubs winning,” exclaimed Colin Moran, ‘22.

“The Cubs always know how to come together when October rolls around so I’m excited to watch this postseason,” added Daniel Moderhack, ‘20.

As you can see, Cubs fans are ready for this years run, and nobody is more excited to see that confetti drop.
