    The Scenic Route (Bacon)

Whitney Young high school is globally renowned for its Academic Excellence, heralded as the “School of Champions” full of the brightest students and faculty. Recently the administration has come up with the most brilliant of solutions for an issue plaguing the student body: tardiness. After many years of students starting the day walking through the glorious doors of the arts building’s southern entrance and receiving friendly greetings from the security staff, the administration has decided to crack down.

In a classic example of the school putting their students first, administration has implemented a plan that ensures all students arriving five or more minutes late to the arts building will be able to take a peaceful time efficient walk to the main entrance.

“Why be 10 minutes late when you can be 20 minutes late,” said senior Parth Bedi.

The implementation of this plan has been quite successful. Senior Bob McCheddar was thrilled with the new legislation, “This new rule is perfect! I hate going to class and far prefer a stroll through the parking lot to start my morning.” However, some students are not satisfied. Sophomore Frackie Gerald Hudgins, who claims to have senioritis “because It’s my fourth year at this darn school” wishes the punishment for late arrivals to the arts building was more severe. “At this point why not have the students walk downtown if they’re arriving late. I mean it’s not like we’re learning anything.”

With most seniors being into college and shifting their focus away from the many walls of Whitney Young, it is no doubt the perfect time to teach them a lesson on tardiness. Experts determined that the “Scenic Route” leads to a 90 percent increase in students arriving the second before the arts building doors are locked, and everyone knows an 8:09 arrival is far superior to one at 8:10.The only problem is that the arts security guards don’t know what to do with all their extra time. Many have suggested that they start “brawling” on Brawl Stars, a video game that has a chokehold on our Whitney Young community. Others have suggested that the security guards join senior Om Raizada on his spiritual journey of meditation, mindfulness and peace. The only question left is: Where will the scenic route take you?
