The boys swim team won the varsity city championship for the sixth year in a row.

They practice nine times a week and are led by head coach Andy Parro. The team lost Dan Shumaker ‘14 who was a state qualifier, but others team members, such as Duncan McDonald ‘16, have been working hard to step up to the plate.
“We’re faster than last year and we brought in another solid group of freshmen so we certainly have an edge,”said captain Tony Tremmel ‘15.

Their goals for the season are to win sectionals for the first time and to place top ten at state. Last year the team was ranked first in CPS. They won first in City, second in sectionals, and 17th in State.
So far the team has broken four records. Chavez broke his own 50 freestyle pool record at WY, and set a meet record at Hinsdale Central in the 100 freestyle. Tremmel, Julian Escasa ‘15, Zach Stensland ‘15, and Chavez broke the 200 medley relay as well as the 400 freestyle relay pool record.

“This year the team is more connected than ever,” said Captain Mossimo Chavez ‘15. “We go out to eat as a team after meets and hang out when we can. I think having a close team positively affect team events”.
