10 Ways to Practice Self Care this Winter

Nia Lambert

The winter can be a challenging time for many people for several reasons—colder weather and daylight savings, to name two. Especially now, with COVID-19 and social distancing becoming harder due to the weather, we as Americans have been forced to get creative. That is why I have chosen ten self-care remedies to get you through this winter.

Take a Walk

Walks have more benefits than you might think. Getting outside for eve

n just 10 minutes a day can boost your serotonin and make you overall a happier person.

Grab Some Hot Chocolate and Watch a Movie

Grab a blanket and some swiss miss and enjoy your favorite movie! Or look up a l

ist of the top films from this year or of all time.

Drink Water

The health benefits of drinking more water are endless, especially in the winter. Clearer skin, boost memory and mood, reduces headaches, and so much more. It’s also a perfect addition to any meal!

Virtual Hangouts

If you can’t meet up and socially distance in person, have a virtual hangout! Platforms like Zoom, Face Time, and Google Meet makes it as easy as making a PB&J. Have a game night or a movie night on Telepathy; the possibilities are endless.

Take a Bath

Many of us tend to take showers because they are quick and easy. Although sometimes we need some more “me” time. Add some bubbles, essential oils, and Bath Bombs. Make it as extravagant as you would like!

Prepare Comfort Foods

Food is a lovely way to bring yourself inner comfort. Make holiday-themed food, baked goods, or even a meal for your family.

Create Art

Art is a great way to express yourself, whether through music or painting. You can find art prompts and follow them or create something abstract!

Create a Safe Space

Find a place in your home that you can relax in other than your bed. Add candles, Incense, or whatever else you enjoy. Make it your space to go and be in tune with yourself and your emotions.

Invest in Houseplants

Houseplants are a beautiful addition to any home and can uplift your mood

immensely. They add a sense of light to any room and can be reasonably easy to take care of.

Journal

Journaling is a way to let go and create new ideas. During 2020 we have spent a lot of Time at home thinking, and a perfect way to save these thoughts is in a journal. The key to journaling is just to let go and write rather than have a plan. Let your imagination and emotions run wild.

I hope these tips help you with your winter and bring you loads of happiness during what can be a tough time.
