Alancia King

Alancia+King

Alancia King is one of my peers that attend Whitney Young Magnet High School. She has worked very hard her whole academic career and she always strives for straight A’s. She has also been able to manage her time between her school work and her activities. She started her own club called “Lift Moms, Lift the World.” She says “it is a club that helps to support single mothers.” She is also on the committee of the Asian American Club.

But academics is not her only strong suit. She is very passionate about dance. She first started dancing  at Whitney Young when she was a freshman and now she is a senior in Dance IV. Alancia says that she “loves to express herself through dance.” For her senior experience project, Alancia runs a youth dance program at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. It is a lot of work for her but she loves dance so much that she doesn’t even care. This year Alancia was diagnosed with tendonitis. She wanted to continue dancing but she could not without further injuring herself. This was a very great challenge for her. She had to wait patiently for her joints to heal. After what seemed like forever, she was able to dance again. Alancia also plans to follow her dancing passion throughout college.

Another discipline she will be studying in college is speech and language pathology. Alancia wants to become a speech and language pathologist because she wants “to help people speech disabilities be able to stand up for themselves and express themselves.” Isn’t she just a saint?
