Club Fair 10/5

Beth Waller

The annual Whitney Young Club Fair was this past Wednesday, October 3rd. It was held in the Gold and Green Houses after school from 3:30-5:00. It was helped planned by Whitney Young’s Student Council. The club fair is a great way for students to get involved in their school, try new things, and get to know their peers. While talking about her own club, Lauren Radomski ‘19 stated, “I run the Chicago Dance Marathon  Club

that raises money for Lurie Children’s’ Hospital and I think club fair is so great for recruiting people to help us with our mission.” Like previous years, there were many clubs at the fair, both old and new. Students walked around looking at posters and writing their emails down on rosters to join the clubs. The club selection included a wide variety of culture clubs, service clubs, dance clubs, sports clubs, art clubs, and more. “I saw a lot of new clubs about giving back and raising money for specific organizations like Giving Tree and Hope for Haiti , which are very important to be part of as young people who should be thinking of others,” noted Jacqui Burrier ‘21.

However, it is common that students sign up for clubs and don’t follow up. “There are so many options… I get involved and end up in like 30 clubs by the end of it and only actively participate in 2 or 3,” notes Olivia Gork ‘20. Keeping this in mind, it was great there were so many options, but it is important that students stay involved with the clubs they signed up for. And if you missed out on club fair, it’s not too late! Many clubs have boards and flyers all over the school hallways with their emails.
