Dance Show

Isabel Shanahan

This dance show was the best one yet. Every year I am amazed at the choreography and the dance quality. There is honestly nothing in this city that is better than the dance show. This year I was in more pieces than ever before. I was in Status Quo, Culture, The Finale, and my personal favorite Din Daa Daa.

I have been trying out for Din Daa Daa for about 4 years and every year I’ve been told to try again next year, but this year to my shock and disbelief I made it. Never in a million years did I expect to dance in Din Daa Daa for my senior year let alone for my junior year. The audition is rigorous and many don’t understand why because the dancers are only on stage for about a minute and thirty seconds. However, for that minute and thirty seconds you are on fire and nothing can touch you. During the final show on Saturday night I was dancing so hard all my hair came out of my ponytail. It is a feeling I would never exchange for anything else in the world.

Every piece this year had a feeling behind it. This feeling is something that you can’t explain. One of my favorite pieces was made by a senior of GnD Cameron. This piece really spoke to me as I felt it through my soul. Everyone was wearing a black shirt and they would take it off one after another to reveal a colorful leotard. I think this spoke a lot to individuality and how even when you are trying to not conform and show yourself you are still trying to fit in. The choreography was exquisite too. As the whole stage moved as one being.

Dance I all the way up to GnD was involve as everyone was in two pieces and with this wide range in variety there is truly a piece for everyone. Steven H. ‘19 came up to me after the show and said, “You did amazing everyone did amazing, I’ve never seen anything like that.” Honestly I haven’t either. I have been to many dance shows but never have I enjoyed i as much as the dance show. Ella Cutler ‘21 said, “The amount of energy that the dancers had was really fun to see. How involved everyone is in the pieces is just amazing.” Every single dancer gives her or his heart and soul into each piece and it makes a show that is sincere, heartfelt, and unapologetic.
