Parks and Recreation vs The Office

There is an ongoing debate on which American TV series is better, Parks and Recreation or The Office. Parks and Recreation is a political satire sitcom, while The Office is a television comedy series. Parks and Recreation, often referred to as “Parks and Rec,” is about main character, Leslie Knope, who works for the Recreation Department of Pawnee. The series begins with Leslie assisting a nurse in the community after her boyfriend fell into a pit and suffered serious injuries. In hopes to help boost her career, Leslie uses her bureaucracy to fill this pit and make the neighborhood more appealing. Parks and Rec aired from 2009-2015, with a total of 7 seasons and 8.8 out of 10 stars on IMDb. When asked about her television series preference, Allison Geary ‘18 said, “Honestly I think Parks and Recreation is the best show that has ever existed. It is so funny and the fact that the main character is a woman makes it that much better!”

However, others disagree. The Office first aired in 2005 and was an immediate hit. It also has 8.8 out of 10 stars on IMDb. The Office is about an average paper company is Scranton, Pennsylvania managed by main character, Michael Scott. Michael Scott is portrayed as very unprofessional and hilarious. The series follows the daily lives of Michael and his employees, capturing their awkward and strange encounters. Lisa Mei ‘18 says, “My favorite pastime is to sit in bed watching The Office. The characters always have me dying laughing. Definitely better than Parks and Rec, sorry!” Unfortunately, The Office ended in 2013 with a total of 9 seasons. The Office and Parks and Recreation will always be two unforgettable serious with millions of fans, just wishing for one more episode.
