Last Thursday On April, 19th Whitney Young girls soccer team kicked off the beginning of the Chicago cup tournament by beating Back of the Yards college prep 7-1 at St Ignatius. Sophie Putrim (‘18) led scorers with two goals. The Lady Dolphins spread the ball quite a bit, having six total scorers. Ryan Yu 18’ noted, “The girls looked like a cohesive unit and look like they’re going to make a good run at this tournament.” The tournament is being scored in a four team round robin style. The winner of each game will be given three points, one point for a tie and zero points for a loss. In the next game of the tournament,  the girls tied 1-1 to Chicago University. Giving the Lady Dolphins and Chicago University 1 point each in the tournament. “ It’s interesting to see the girls competing in this new tournament I hope to see this tournament next year,”, said  Kevin Luciano ‘18. This Monday, April 23rd. Whitney Young will go on to play Lane Tech in a personal rivalry for these two city powerhouses.
