Elon Musk and The Boring Company’s newly revealed flamethrower. The flamethrower (which is priced at a below average cost of $500) is both more portable and stylish than standard flamethrowers on the market. The flamethrower has received both criticism and acclaim from different sides. One argument for the naysayers of Musk’s flamethrower is that it is potentially dangerous for the public to be able to own a flamethrower for both a cheap price and with such a portable functionality.

I took to the halls to interview Whitney Young students on what they thought of the product. Some were surprised you could even buy a flamethrower so casually. “You can just buy flamethrowers? I didn’t know that.” said Elijah Howard ‘19. Others were not so optimistic of people and their ability to safely own a flamethrower. “What if someone bought this with the intent to burn people? That would be pretty bad.” said Youta Asano ‘19.

Even with the controversy behind this product, the flamethrower has earned The Boring Company over $7.5 million in less than 4 days. Time can only tell what The Boring Company will sow when they reap what their product produces in the future.
