Insidious: The Last Key Movie Review

On January 5th, 2018, the fourth Insidious movie was released in theaters. We dive into the story of the main character from all 4 of the Insidious movies. Lin Shaye acts in the role of Elise Reiner, an older woman who at a young age dealt with not only the terrors of an abusive dad, but also of dark spirits haunting her home. The viewer is really able to become emerged into the movie and become connected to Elise because of her abusive father. This special power that Elise has becomes her new job. She uses it to help people who deal with the horrific creatures from the dark world. She is called on to come back to her old home to help someone who is dealing with the same kind of terrors that Elise once dealt with.

 

As she searches the house to try to fix the problem, she discovers more about her past, and why her father was so brutal towards her. She is able to get rid of the terrors from the house, one that contains plenty of jump scares for the viewer. There are gruesome scenes that really add so the creepiness of the movie. Gabriel Regalado ‘19 saw it the day it came out. He says, “I felt like I did not know what was going on in the start of the movie and sometimes throughout due to the fact that I had not seen the other movies. There were certain concepts that I could not understand since I didn’t have prior knowledge of what happened in previous chapters of the movie.” Esme McCarthy ‘20 also was not impressed. He says, “Any horror movie will scare me. I just felt like the story was weak and they did not spend enough time at the house trying to get rid of the terrifying creatures.” This movie was rated a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes.
