How to Maintain Curls in Winter Weather.

It is winter time and as many people know skin and hair tend to dry out. While we all know that the way to keep dry skin moisturized is through using lotions, oils, and skin enhancer, not all people know how to keep their hair healthy. In the winter, dry hair normally happens to females and males with curly and or thick hair. Below I have came up with some way I think will maintain curly or thick hair during this dry season.

1. Be sure to cut all dead or heat damaged ends

It is very important you cut your split ends off at least every 3- 6 months. “Unlike skin, hair does not have living cells; therefore, once the hair is damaged it cannot biologically repair itself.  The damage can only be concealed or further damage can be prevented.” (Charlene Walton. Texture Talks) Weak ends will continue to break creating more frustration on your journey to a healthy head of curls.

2. Moisturize hair with the proper hair product for your texture

Yes, as we all know hair have different textures, meaning they need different product.  Also you need to moisturize through deep conditioners every week.   May sure to check the ingredients in your deep conditioners  to make sure they are right for your hair texture.

3. Don’t Shampoo Hair Frequently

For thick and curly hair, shampooing hair can cause it to be brittle in the winter. If the hair is brittle is will break off and we don’t want this. Instead try doing an apple cider vinegar rinse, or another alternative to shampooing.

4. Use heat sparingly or don’t use it at all.

Using small or spaced out amount of heat is fine but straighten hair daily will cause for curls to be flattened.
