The New Harold’s: Hit or Miss?

Jai Primer

Recently, a new Harold’s Chicken Shack  has opened up on the corner of Ashland and Madison, near Subway, Dunkin Donuts, and Billy Goat’s. This new Harold’s has replaced the overpriced, greasy pizza from Pepperino’s. After nearby Ella’s changed management and consequently, prices, students are hopeful that this will become a delicious, convenient lunch option. Although some believe that West Side Harold’s are inferior to those on the South Side, students all over the school have been eager to try it. The question is whether or not the chicken is worth the money.  Nyla David ‘19 notes, “It’s good, but the sauce wasn’t mild. It’s like honey barbecue.” Harold’s appeal is all in the sauce. It is what sets it apart from Popeyes, KFC, and Uncle Remus. If the sauce isn’t quite right, then it isn’t quite the same.

This reporter tried it herself , and agrees with Nyla. It isn’t disgusting by any means, but it definitely isn’t quite right. Sure, the chicken tastes fresh, but it is missing a certain je ne sais quoi. Based on these reviews, this new Harold’s isn’t anything to rave about. On the other hand, if your options are limited, and you don’t have a car, fresh chicken is always better than frozen pasta from Pizza Hut or a donut from Dunkin. In that case, it would definitely be a hit.
