The Dolphins Fantastic Season Comes to an End

Jessica Perez

The Dolphins’ fantastic season came to an unfortunate end as they lost against Leyden East on Saturday at their Regional Championship. Although the loss was an upset, the Dolphins made softball history this season by being the only CPS softball team to ever reach 30+ wins. The journey to this miraculous season was no easy task. The team practiced everyday after school for two hours, and sometimes even before school from 6:30 to 7:45 am, to prepare for the season. Although those practice hours sound long and tiring, Grace Mosele ’20 says “I love my team. We are all one big family, and they make practice so fun.” This year the team was made up of twelve players: four freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors, and four seniors.

Every two years the team goes on a trip to Florida, and competes in the Disney ESPN World Wide Sports tournament. This year the Dolphins went undefeated against teams from Connecticut, Kentucky, New York, and all over. They went on to win a City Championship for the second year in a row in a dramatic fashion against Lane Tech, scoring five runs with two outs in the sixth inning to come back and win the game 8-7.

Anyone who is interested in joining the team next year can talk to Coach Hinrichs, or Ashley Bravo ’18 and Kiara Negron ’18. Ashley Bravo ’18, Purdue Northwest Commit, says “I have been on varsity for the past three years, and I love playing on this team. This team is great for anyone who wants to make friends and compete at the highest caliber possible ” Some of the players in this program have gone on and are going onto play college softball. Sam Berghoff ’16 plays softball at Illinois Wesleyan, and they recently competed in NCAA Division III Women’s College World Series. Anyone can keep up with the team by following their Instagram and Facebook Page, both are WYSoftball.
