Exclusive with Brandon Dokliev

Denise Azadeh, Editor

One familiar face at Whitney Young is the illustrious senior Brandon Dokliev. Dokliev, a running star, can often be seen wandering the halls while cracking jokes and laughing with friends. He is charming, intelligent, and a fantastic person, so I sat down with him earlier this week to get an exclusive one-on-one interview.

D: What is the best part about being a WY Dolphin?

B: Wow, let me think about this – there are so many good parts! I love being on the cross country and track and field teams. That brotherhood and atmosphere and getting to represent my school have all been an honor.

D: What is the worst part about being a WY Dolphin?

B: Having a lame mascot and getting made fun of for it.

D: After leaving WY, what are your plans for the future?

B: I’m going to go to a four year university and hopefully major in finance and foreign relations. Maybe I’ll go to graduate school after that for my Masters of Business Administration (MBA). I want to be studying forever.

D: Within high school, what interests have you developed?

B: The reason I want to major in finance is because of the economics course I took with Mr. Waller, which was fascinating to me. In general, I want to grow as an individual. I want to better myself in my knowledges both school related and not.

D: What is one hobby you have that others might think is a waste of time?

B: Running. People don’t like to run.

D: Do you have any undeveloped interests?

B: Yes.

D: Could you elaborate?

B: Many things, I have so much more to do.

D: If you hadn’t attended WY, where would you have gone to high school? How do you think it would have affected you?

B: I would have gone to Maine South in Park Ridge. If I went there I probably wouldn’t have been able to experience this beautiful city. I would have been cornered out there in that little suburb. I wouldn’t have been able to meet such a wide range of people diversity wise. I probably would not be as “woke” as I am now.

D: Finally, what is one quote or piece of advice you live your life by?

B: This isn’t a joke, but “YOLO”, because it’s important to not cruise through life doing repetitive tasks. It’s important to live and have your own experiences, making sure that you live life to the fullest.

D: Alright, thank you so much!

B: No problem, it was great answering your questions.
Well, folks, this was a transcript of my exclusive interview with Brandon. I hope you’ll find him just as interesting as I did (who knew he used the word woke?).
