Sam Shuman

There are many routes adrenaline junkies may take to get there fix. High thrill roller coasters at various amusement parks around America offer an exciting outlet to scream, cry (maybe), and most importantly, feel the rush. Here are the top five amusement parks in America for thrill seekers.

5: Universal Studios Florida: Overshadowing the mainstream pull of Disney World, Universal Studios in Orlando brings in close to ten million thrill seekers on a yearly basis. Modeled off of Hollywood films, the park is recognized for its massive rides such as The Incredible Hulk and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It also features Dragon Challenging, a pair of intertwining coasters that race alongside each other.

4: Six Flags Great Adventure: At 510 acres, Six Flags Great Adventure is the world’s largest amusement park, and its rides are just as big. The park houses thirteen coasters, including the tallest and second fastest in the world: Kingda Ka. Standing at 456 feet high and going 128 mph, Kingda Ka is a thrill you can’t miss out on. Additionally, the park is also home to El Toro, which holds top records for speed (3rd), height (3rd), and length (2nd) for a wooden coaster.

3: Kings Island: Recently celebrating its 45th anniversary, Kings is known for its intimidating wooden coasters. In May of 2000, the park opened Son of Beast, the first wooden coaster to contain an inverted loop. It’s also home to the 7,359 foot long Beast, the park’s main attraction. After conquering the two Beasts, head to Firehawk, Banshee, and Diamondback.

2: Six Flags Magic Mountain: Six Flags Magic Mountain holds the record for the most roller coasters at 19. Its main rides include X2, deliriously spinning you 360 degrees in your seat as you plummet twenty stories down, and Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, taking you on the highest (415 ft) freefall drop in the West Coast. After, be sure to check out Tatsu, Superman: Escape from Krypton, and Scream

1: Cedar Point: The self-proclaimed “roller coaster capital of the world” surely lives up to its title. Cedar Point’s seventeen coasters will keep you going all day. It’s home to renowned coasters such as Millennium Force, a coaster consistently considered as one of the best in the world, and Top Thrill Dragster, the 120 mph, 420 ft giant. Moreover, Maverick and Raptor are other smaller, but still powerful, main attractions made to thrill.

These five parks collectively contain the meanest and most daring coasters. If you are looking for your next destination to spend a day of thrills, look no further than these parks.
