Google Slides: A Helpful PowerPoint Tool

Katie Eppley

Google Slides is like the artsy sister to the famous Google Docs and one of the many children of the beloved Google Drive. Slides is the Drive program that allows the user to construct and present powerpoints and will be sure to bring you back those joyous memories of using Powerpoint 07 in grade school. It, like the rest of Google Drive is free to use with your personal Gmail account or your CPS email. It provides all the necessary tools to make both professional and creative slide shows. It includes more basic features like the ability to add a textbox or image wherever the user pleases and write in a variety of fonts and colors. For a more put together look, the user has the ability to add in creative transitions between slides, and entrance and exiting effects on the images and words of the slide. Text boxes can be rotated to different angles to break the monotony. Images can be resized and recolored as well as changed in contrast, brightness, and opacity which when applied correctly, makes your presentation look studious and professional. If one is short on time the user can select one of a dozen themes, which will set up your Slides with specific and aesthetic set slide styles texts and colors. Additionally one can easily insert shapes, gifs, and graphs and charts that the user can create and update with Google Sheets. The influence of Drive and Slides has spread literally  around the world. Katell Barc, a 16 year old student from Norway said to describe its easiness, “It can be very useful if you’re not very good at powerpoint.” conclusively speaking, Google Slides is easy and fast to use and it’s easily accessible anywhere a user has internet access, it’s an excellent way to present information visually and it’s only few clicks away.
