App Review: Shazam

Cecilia Bedolla

Shazam is one of the most used music apps in the world. It is one of the most favorite music apps because it is free and helps you discover new songs everywhere you go. Caitlin Aalders, a foreign exchange student from Norway agrees, “We use Shazam a lot in Norway to find songs that most Americans listen to.” The app works by telling the name and artist of the tracks you hear, whether it be on the radio, during a commercial, or anywhere else you may hear music. Ricardo Tovar ‘17, a student at Whitney Young said, “I once went to a baseball game at U.S Cellular Field and in between innings, I heard a song I really loved and Shazam helped me get the name of it.” In addition to finding and tagging all the songs you come across, you can view related music to the songs you “Shazamed” and get links to purchase the songs, read along with the lyrics, listen to them in other apps like Spotify to view upcoming concerts, and much more. Maya Popernik ‘18, a student at Whitney Young said, “Without Shazam, half of my playlist would not exist.” Shazam is extremely easy to use and is very easy to download on any device whether it be iPhone, Android, or iPad.
