Ever wonder what the college experience is really like? The website Society19 is an extremely useful site that allows users to get an inside look on what a college is really like. Choosing a college can be difficult, but with Society19 college life is discussed more in depth than on the college run website.

A section of the website is dedicated to College Life, which is then divided into categories which are: academics, after college, dorm life, Greek life, jobs & job hunting, and life in the real world. Often times, it can be difficult to find honest, gritty information about the dorm and Greek life in a college because only the positives are typically highlighted. At open houses for colleges, the representatives obviously stress academics, but it is hard to determine really how rigorous the work is. Having a student run academic section allows you to determine the course load and whether or not you will be able to have free time. Juan Gomez ‘17  reflects on his college decision process and says, “I think Society19 would have been really helpful when I was picking a college. I found it hard to find the truth about the college experience.”

The writers for the website are usually college students or recent college graduates who have had the real experience. It is very useful to have first hand experience of people who have gone through the process and are close to the reader’s age. Senior Abraham Cornejo states, “I have never heard of this website, but I think it’s really cool that students run it because I feel like the information is more accurate.”

A helpful article that is published was “20 Things No One Tells You About Freshman Year.”Going to college is a stressful experience and having a website to give insight as well as advice is great to ease some worries. Some seniors do not have friends or family that have gone to college or are currently in college so reading about what is expect helps them prepare for the next four years of their life. “It is a good concept for more insight to differentiate if a university has what you want or what you were expecting.” states Caitlin Aalders, a visitor from Norway.

A resource that is similar to Society19 is the YouTube channel called College Life Presents. Just like Society19 it gives an indepth look into the things admission counselors don’t tell.

After an individual graduates from college, they are thrown out into the real world. This is a daunting experience that everyone needs to go through after college, but what do you need to expect in the “real world”. Society19 tackles this issue and is an excellent resource.
