Lacrosse City Championship

Fourpeat! Our lacrosse team has clinched the city title for the fourth year in a row. Although the WY Boys Lacrosse Team is a very young program, they have definitely proved themselves with winning the city championship four out of the five years that they’ve been playing. With players coming from all over CPS and from all grades, the WY Boys Lacrosse Team has become a powerhouse that no other team in the city can seem to beat.

The game may not have been much of a nail-biter, but it was definitely fun to watch. With a final score of 19-4, the Dolphins were not given much competition. However, it was very fun to see the scoring fest that was the city championship. 19 big goals kept the WY audience cheering the whole time, and kept the Lane Tech audience pretty silent.

In their 2016 season, the team accumulated ten wins and eight losses. And on Friday May 20, the team won the city championship for the fourth year in a row against Lane Tech, and are moving on to compete for the state title. “I’m super hyped for the playoffs.  I have a lot of faith in my team. We’ve been working hard this whole season and this is the time for us to show it. Teams outside of the city are really tough, so we’re going to be going up against some tough teams, but I think my boys can handle it,” says co-captain Farukh Sarkulov ‘16.

Unfortunately, the team is going to be losing a lot of talent this year. Seniors Luke Mallette, Dillon Jacobson, Luke Zarzecki, Farukh Sarkulov, Byron Mason, Ben Phalen, Joey Parker, Jack Eberle, and Justin Lam will all be graduating. “It feels weird that it’s going to be over.  But I’m hoping we can go out with a state championship,” says co-captain Jack Eberle. These seniors have been a big part of the team’s success these past four years, and the team will miss them dearly. Luckily they will be ending their WY Lacrosse careers with at least one championship, and hopefully they’ll be able to get a second.
