The WY Boys Water Polo Team’s successful season came to an end on Saturday, May 14th.  Coming off of a big win over De La Salle with a score of 12-10, unfortunately the Dolphins came up short against the Ignatius Wolfpack in the Sectional Final, with a score of 6-14. This crushing defeat marked the end of the Water Polo Team’s season because of the state tournament’s single elimination rule.

The end of the season does not subtract from the season’s success however. Captain Duncan McDonald ‘16 shares his thoughts on this season, “Aw man, I’m really sad to see my Water Polo career at Whitney Young has come to an end. I’ve put a lot of time and energy into this program and I’m sad to see that it’s over.  However, I am happy with how the team played.  We got pretty far in the tournament and we played well the whole way through.” Even though the season is over, the team still thinks their season was an overall success.

The Water Polo Team keeps looking towards the future. Dan Rusca ‘18 tells us that he is looking forward to the team’s future seasons, “Ignatius was a crushing defeat. I hoped we could beat them because I wanted the Sectional Title. We definitely could beat them, so I hope next year I’ll be able to help the team to the Sectional Final again.” All of WY is proud of our Water Polo Team! Good job boys, we hope every future season will be as good as this one was.
