The last time the White Sox started off 15-6, they won the World Series in 2005. Ever since that season, the Sox have only clinched a playoff spot in 2008, leaving South Siders disappointed. In 2016 it seems as if South Siders have a brand new team, which is more focused and better in all categories. Led by Chris Sale (pitcher), who is an early CY Young candidate they are second in the MLB in Runs allowed per game (2.35). This makes up for the Sox batting which ranks 18th in Batting Average in the MLB. The famous term “defense wins championships” seems to be installed in the Sox organization.

Numbers never lie, and the White Sox are proving that theory. Last season their Average Runs allowed was 3.98 compared to 2.35 this season. Pitching coach Don Cooper told ESPN “I’m looking for Chris Sale to be a little economical with his pitches, let’s get ’em out quicker. Let’s get strikeouts when you need them.” Looks as if the players, especially Chris Sale have bought into the new pitching ideas and it is producing more and more wins.

The most entertaining thing about this season is early season predictions based on records have the Cubs facing the Sox in the World Series. Usually Cubs and Sox fans only look forward to the cross-town rivalry between the two teams. This year is exciting and different. Both teams are in first place are respectively the hottest teams in baseball. One fan tweeted “How high would those ticket prices be in July if Arrieta and Sale faced off” The anticipation is so exciting and this really and could be a historic season with the two teams facing off in a cross-town world series matchup!
