Never doubt the Lady Dolphins in the playoffs, they always find a way to get to their final destination, Bloomington, Illinois. The Lady Dolphins will be headed downstate to compete in the Class 4A state semifinals and possibly finals. Their most recent overtime comeback 76-74 victory on February 29th against Homewood-Flossmoor High School, showed their desire to win and how badly they want to end the season at the top.

Kiara Lewis ‘16 played like a superstar in all of the right moments. She finished with 44 points and 13 rebounds and made huge plays down the stretch to complete the comeback. The Lady Dolphins trailed almost the entire game  with a 15 point deficit early in the first half. They had two choices, to either quit or keep battling. Lewis took charge and made the decision to keep battling.

The comeback was mounted by Lewis, but Danyelle Williams ‘17 made key defensive plays down the stretch which led to easy offense. The biggest play she made was late in regulation after a basket by Lewis, getting a steal off the inbounds pass that led to a game-tying and-one by Jala Wilson ‘16.

Near the end of regulation, senior forward Isabelle Spingola fouled out, which only created a bigger need for Williams’ and Lewis’ late spark. Spingola finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Late in overtime, the Lady Dolphins made key free-throws and defensive stops. After a big turnover by Lewis, Homewood-Flossmoor threw the ball down the court to try and get an open layup and Williams came up with two key blocks in a row, leading to a free-throw by Adrienne Truitt ‘17 which sealed the deal.

The Lady Dolphins head downstate to play Friday against Fremd high school at 6:30 P.M. If they win that game they will play the winner of the Benet Academy vs. Trinity High School game Saturday night at 8:15 P.M. Buses will be available for the game on Friday.  Get on board and support your Lady Dolphins!
