Poms takes state title, prepares for next season

WY poms recently won the Team Dance Illinois (TDI) state competition. This was the first time they won the competition in 3 years.

“It was surreal,” said co-captain Kia Barclay ‘15.

According to team members, their bond as a team is part of what makes them successful.

“We’re a big family,” said Imani Evans ‘16. “It’s a good experience because you get to dance with people who love [dance].”

Even though their competition season is over, poms often gets the opportunity to perform at pep rallies and the annual McDonald’s All American Game.

“Poms is a hard working, dedicated team of young ladies,” said manager Spenser Davis-Ramsey ‘16.

The team is looking forward to next year and working to build the team for future years.

“It’s bittersweet seeing seniors leave, but it’s great getting new freshmen and teaching them,” Evans said.

There will be an informational meeting on March 23, where the team will talk about Poms and showcase their dances. Tryouts will be on March 24 and 25. The team is looking for dancers who know stunts, but anyone is welcome to tryout.
