Many visit the bowling alley for an exciting night out with friends. But here at WY, bowling is a serious endeavor.  The WY boys bowling team has managed to have a successful season after losing senior Livio Bolzon, the 4th ranked player in the IHSA bowling state finals, and the first state medalist for the WY boys bowling (third in CPS history). They were at upset at city and lost to Taft and Morgan Park.

The only player to make it down state was Andy Hayes ’15 did however make it down state, where he managed to take 12th place.

“I bowled 279 which is one strike shy of a perfect game,” said Hayes.  Scores like this don’t come easy. Andy and his team mates have put in countless hours of work mastering the spin and velocity of the ball.

Although he goes on to say, “I think I really need to work on is the 7-10 split,” Hayes.

It is often referred to as the “goal post” where the bowler is left with the leftmost and the rightmost pin in the back row (the number 7 and number 10) to knock down with a single ball to achieve a spare. This is one of the most difficult splits to pick up.image1
