Take Advantage of Local Ski Slopes

Charlie Blumenthal, Staff Reporter

Although the best skiing areas center around western states such as Utah and Colorado, making treks of that distance are expensive and time consuming.  For families and friends seeking to find a cheaper, closer, mountain to shred, look to these Midwest resorts.

Granite Peak/ Boyne Mountain:  These two Midwest slopes are the largest, as well as furthest from Chicago.  Both more than four and a half hours away and a bit more expensive than your typical local ski hill, Granite Peak and Boyne Mountain contain the best downhill/ cross-country skiing in the Midwest.

Wilmot/ Alpine Valley: Wilmot Mountain and Alpine Valley are two hills on the Illinois/ Wisconsin border, only about an hour away, that are very cheap, yet the hills themselves are smaller and have less slopes and terrain parks than most other Midwest mountains.

Cascade Mountain/ Devil’s Head: The perfect in-between.  Both mountains are about three hours away, and are relatively inexpensive and providing great quality skiing/snowboarding.

A fully revamped ski/snowboard club is also in the works. The first trip will be at Cascade Mountain on January 30th, and the board of executives hopes to have many more throughout the season. Anyone interesting in joining ski club can contact Ms. Frost for more information.
