A New Passion for Fashion

From dressing up with blazers and trousers to cozying up with a comfy fall sweater, trends are really hitting it big this fall. Outfit components that you might never think of are expected to be all the rage this upcoming season.

To start, there’s denim. Denim is a staple and has been trending for many years but this year almost every type of denim clothing item is in the trends. Denim can be used in anything; from skirts, jeans, jackets, and even tops. Cardigans or baggy sweaters are perfect to pair with denim jeans. Also, denim jackets are great with floral tops or dresses.

Plaid patterns are also really cute for fall fashion. Especially plaid skirts and handbags. You can add plaid accents to almost any fall outfit to spice it up. Another shift in fall fashion is seen in the newfound prominence of blazers and trousers. Both are most commonly thought of as professional outfit components, but they can also give your fall wardrobe a clean and sophisticated look. Trousers can be dressed up or down with their sleek texture, and simple, but elegant shape. Blazers are good to pair with matching trousers or as a statement to dress up your outfit.

Present style is, in some ways, very different from previous years with our new unique pieces. Still, we have to recognize that some current fashion is completely borrowed from past decades. Looking back on past fall fashion trends, you can see a lot of thick scarves and skinny jeans. These items are very much out right now; but, who knows if they will come back. Uggs were first seen in paparazzi photos in the early 2000s, and carried onto winter and fall fashion in the 2010s. Although most tall Uggs aren’t really in, different Ugg styles, such as the Tasman Slippers and the Ugg Ultra Minis, are. Jeans are another example of different styles trending at different times. In the 2010s jeans were most popular as skinny jeans. Now, wide leg, mom, or boyfriend jeans are most stylish. In the 2010s cargo coats were really popular in fall fashion. This has changed a lot since then, and you won’t catch too many people wearing them now. Buckles around the waist of most outdoor jackets were also specific to the 2010s. Now people have ditched the buckles. Current fashion as a whole has veered to the past. Y2k and parts of ‘80s fashion have come back. If this cycle continues to repeat, maybe 2010 fall fashion will come back soon but it’s still hard to tell (personally, I hope not). If I’ve dissed your entire wardrobe in this article, don’t take it too personally, you might just be the new trend setter at Whitney Young (and beyond).
