Halloween Costume Tips & Tricks 2020!!!

Ethan Nakashima

What’s going on, guys, and welcome to my Halloween costume tips & tricks guide for 2020! Today, we’ll be going over how to celebrate the holiday during the pandemic, and the best costume ideas to make you the spookiest person on the block. This year, Halloween is going to be pretty different with COVID still being an issue, so there are some important rules to keep in mind. If you plan on having a party, make sure you have it outside, or in a well-ventilated area. Even though it’s a party, try to keep your distance from others when possible. If nothing else, wear your face masks! With the face masks on, no one will be able to tell who you are! Spooky!

If you are planning on giving treats out, here are some ideas to limit the amount of contact you have with trick-or-treaters:

  1. Give out individual treat bags: Having a bowl full of candy means a lot of hands touching the same bowl. With individually-made bags, no one will be touching anyone else’s candy. Except you. Feel free to put all kinds of scary things in the bags, like raisins!
  2. Set up a treat table: By putting all the candy out on a table in front of your house, you won’t even have to be in contact with trick-or-treaters. The only downside to this method is that trick-or-treaters could sneakily grab a couple extra pieces of candy. If this happens, you have every right to tackle the thief and take back your stolen loot!
  3. Don’t even have candy!: Who says you have to spend your own money on candy for people you don’t even know? Hard pass. Plus, Faizi Tofighi ‘21 claims that “it’s unreasonable to put my family’s health on the line for something like that,” which is fine too. Kind of.

With all the boring stuff out of the way, we can finally talk about what everyone was waiting for. Below are the most spine-chilling costumes ideas for this year’s Halloween:

  1. Surgeon: Pass not having costume off as being a surgeon! All you need is a mask, and voilà! You look like you just finished a heart transplant!
  2. Nothing: Wear a coat and claim that it’s too chilly out, but you have the most terrifying costume under it! Definitely!
  3. Anything but an Among Us character: Please don’t dress up as an Among Us character. Even Stephen Luo ‘24 thinks “it’s going to be overused.” It’s like everyone dressing up as Harley Quinn back in 2016. Don’t do this.
