Pop Smoke Fatally Shot in Hollywood Hills Home

 The morning of February 19, 2020, a group of people, including one wearing a mask and armed with a handgun, broke into the Hollywood Hills home of the up-and-coming rapper Pop Smoke which resulted in his death. The Los Angeles Police Department is still attempting to determine the motive for the attack that shook the rap world and resulted in many tributes from various other rappers like Nikki Minaj and A$AP Rocky. Pop Smoke, whose legal name is Bashar Barakah, was only twenty years old. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Officers detained several people inside the house, but they were later released. At least four suspects fled the scene, and authorities say they have not been found. Investigators suspect the home where the rapper was staying was targeted by the assailants.The death of Pop Smoke has left many people reeling, including WY students. Zadrain, ‘21, said this about the rapper’s passing; “Pop Smoke was one of the most promising young rappers in the game, it sucks that he never got to continue his music.” Even non-fans like Aaron, ‘20, felt upset after the news; “I didn’t listen to Pop Smoke but it’s always really sad when well-known artists pass away so young.” Isabella, ‘21’, said; “that’s crazy, I was listening to his song “Welcome to the Party” a few minutes before I read about his death.” Pop Smoke’s death left a severe hole in the current rap movement and many saddened fans.
