Upcoming Deadline for Chicago Scholars

Monday, February 24th, 2020, is the official upcoming deadline for Chicago Scholars, which is a program dedicated to getting underrepresented, low income students into college. Juniors are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as this program is considered a once in a lifetime opportunity. As a part of the program, students meet with counselors and mentors who give insight on how to manage the application process and make the most out of their last year of high school. Several students from Whitney Young and other CPS schools attend this program in hopes of finding future success in their college endeavors.

Members of Chicago Scholars who attend Whitney Young all express their appreciation for the program, including Sylvia Love ‘20 who stated, “Chicago Scholars has helped me so much as far as staying on track and meeting my goals for completing college applications early. They even inspired me to co-found a club here at Whitney Young titled Forward Thinking which maintains a similar goal to CS.” Genesis Rivera ‘20 agreed, adding, “Chicago Scholars gave me the opportunity for Onsite, a wide scale event in which hundreds of students and colleges get the chance to exchange conversation. I had the good fortune to interview with several schools including Vanderbuilt, Stanford, and Columbia University.” Recently, a group of Chicago Scholars also got the opportunity to attend the All Star Game, in which Team Lebron, representing the Chicago Scholars organization, raised a total of 400,000 dollars – all earmarked to the scholars and further developing the program!  CS participant, Kiara Vega ‘20 also got the privilege to escort Russell Westbrook at the big event this past weekend and said, “it was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The Chicago Scholars program has helped thousands of young people advance their educational and professional careers. If you are interested in being a part of the Chicago Scholars family, use this application. Members of the program stand by the words, “once a Chicago Scholar, always a Chicago Scholar!”  Don’t miss the chance to become part of this dynamic community.
