Poms Goes to State!

Guess what! The Whitney Young Poms team is going to state after TWO WHOLE YEARS! “The time we spend here and the physical toll we put on our bodies…,” said Rogelio Renteria, ‘20. The Poms team is one of the teams that always stay after school the latest, until 8 PM. Sometimes even until 10 PM! Crazy right?

The Poms team competes every year in IHSA’s Competitive Dance. Last year the Poms team had no luck and were not able to go downstate. Brianna Anthony, ‘22, stated, “I wasn’t even on the comp team and hearing everyone cry in the room made me so sad”. It had been two years since the team has gone to State. The last time they went downstate to compete was for Black Skin Head, with a score of 82. “They did not make it for the second day,” said Coach Tucks, ‘89. Currently, their score is about 90, going downstate to compete.

“I think we have a big chance to win,” enthused Khloe Wright, ‘21. The team will be leaving Thursday after they hold practice after school. Winning from City to Sectionals, the Poms team are feeling prosperous and joyful. Only two members of the team have experienced competing downstate. Now the entire team will be able to experience it for the first time.

Come and support the Pom Pon team at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, IL on Saturday!
