6IX9INE Might Get Out

Caleb Young

One of the most polarizing figures in pop culture may be released from prison soon. On September 19, 2019, rapper 6ix 9ine testified in court in a RICO case involving him and numerous others. He has been accused of racketeering, murder conspiracy and drug possession. He first made a name for himself for his boisterous and free-spirited music, with viral songs such as “FEFE” and “GUMMO” catapulting him into stardom. He created many enemies, however, as he frequently called out others in his music and on social media.

Facing a life sentence, 6ix was offered a deal from the government which would allow him to avoid further time in jail in exchange for his testimony against his fellow gang members. With the star agreeing to “rat”on his associates, three students were asked how they felt about him snitching. Thomas Stanton ‘20, replied, “I’m not surprised that he looked out for his own self interest, but he should understand that he won’t be welcome in some places he was before.” Likewise Emily Martinez ‘21 noted, “he took the easy way out and demolished any sense of loyalty he had.” Colin Moran ‘22 sang a different tune, however, saying  “I just can’t wait to see what’s next for him and hear more of his exciting music.” We’ll see Colin. We’ll see.
