Guys & Dolls Dance Show

Nyla David

This past weekend I had the honor of performing in my last Guys and Dolls show since I am a senior this year. I have been on this team since I was in 7th grade since I was the first and only 7th grader to ever make the high school team. It was pretty bittersweet because everyone was crying, especially the seniors since this would be the last time we were all dancing together in our show show solely as a team. We do a piece called “Rapt” every year and I have been doing that since I was in 7th grade as well. I know that I always complain about doing the dance but it felt so surreal performing it for the last time in front of such an amazing audience. The dance was created to embrace the joy and happiness of dancing with people that you love and that’s exactly how I felt. “It was peaceful and beautiful,” says 20’ DJ Steward

Not only did we perform Rapt, but this was the show where we choreographed our own pieces. Everyone did their absolute best and made the show come to life, “I loved seeing all the fresh faces and beautiful dances,” expressed Autumn Ford class of 2019. This was the first year I choreographed and it was definitely a very hard and stressful process but in the end I’m glad that I did it. It was titled “Taking it Back” to James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and I focused it mainly on this ideal society that everyone believes that men rule the world but in reality, women do. Women empowerment and knowing that we are as strong as and even stronger than men is really important to me and the girls on my team. “Best show I’ve seen,” admits Junior Tyler Beard.
