Earth Day

Moriah Johnson

As we all know, Earth Day was on Sunday, April 22, so I hope everyone did something to better the world. This year’s theme was ways to end plastic pollution because that is a huge problem in our society and environment. There are many ways to end plastic pollution, like picking up litter that you see, recycling, and using reusable water bottles and bags. Many people do not understand plastic pollution and the depth of the damage it does to our society. Plastic pollution mainly affects the animals in the ocean because they choke on it and die. Jake Kosakowski ‘18 states, “it’s important that everyone has a recycling bin in their home,” in order to save the animals. We do not want to endanger anymore species because that messes with the ecosystems and the food chain. Earth Day should not be the only day we care about the environment; it is an everyday process. Earth Day is just a day to bring awareness to the problems in the environment. If we want to have a prosperous and health future, we should care about the environment. Sierra Orr ‘18 believes, “we have the power to reverse the damage we have already done,” it just takes people committed to change.
