Apple Music v. Spotify

Moriah Johnson

There seems to be a lot of disagreement about which is better, Apple Music or Spotify. Apple Music, Apple’s new creation, is a streaming subscription service that can only be accessed from Apple devices or the Apple Music App. Spotify is another streaming subscription service that can be accessed by any device that has the Spotify App. Seemingly, people either have one or the other and have strong opinions about the one they prefer. Let’s hear what some of the Dolphins have to say.

Jake Kosakowski ‘18, “Apple music is great for mainstream music listeners, but Spotify is more tailored to your personal music preference. It finds artists and music that you like based on what you listen to. Spotify is more for you.” Most of the Dolphins prefer Apple Music over Spotify.  Alexandra Swain ‘20, “Apple music is the best. I love the playlists it creates for you, and I love how I do not need to get a separate app; it is already on my phone. You just pay the subscription, and it is there.” Madison Tate ‘21 agrees with Swain and adds “I prefer Apple Music because it seems more official. Actual artists have deals with Apple Music, so I get music that I cannot get anywhere else, like some of Drake’s songs.” Another addition to those perks, Drew Townsel ‘20 thinks “although, I like that Spotify has a free version, so if you did not want to pay, you can still hear music, but it’s with ads and not specifically what you want to hear. You have to pay premium to get the ideal service, and if you have to do that, I would rather have Apple Music because it’s easier to share what I am listening to with my friends.”

Overwhelmingly, people prefer Apple Music to Spotify, but you all should try out both to figure out which music streaming subscription service you like the best.
