Movie Review: Jigsaw

Moriah Johnson

Jigsaw is the eighth movie in the Saw series. In general, Saw is a movie about a serial killer who punishes people who are morally wrong. He gets them to play a dangerous game, full of torment and torture, in order for them to admit to their sins and suffer. In the 7th Saw movie, the serial killer, John Kramer, died. But, in this movie, it appears that he has resurfaced or there is a successful copycat.

Overall, this movie was great, if you like gory and scary movies. If you have a weak stomach, this movie is probably not the best for you because the creators do not hold back on the blood and guts. The main reason that I liked this movie was because it was not just about a serial killer killing people for no reason, it played on people’s fears and sins. It forced you to question your own morals and think about how your actions affect other people. Each one of the people chosen  had done something that indirectly or directly killed someone else, so he (who’s he?) was trying to get them to feel the pain that the others felt. There was a purpose, which does not happen in a lot of movies. It also forced the victims  to weigh their sins and figure out who deserves to die, but it makes you realize that a sin is a sin and a sin’s weight is completely subjective. The whole movie will have you questioning and thinking philosophically.

You do not find out who the serial killer is until the last five  minutes of the movie, so the whole movie keeps you guessing. Jake Kosakowski ‘18, who has seen the movie, shares, “the best scene was the big reveal because you would have never guessed who it was .”

I rate this movie a 9/10, and everyone should definitely go see it.
