I wasn’t always a Whitney Young Dolphin but my sophomore year I made the smart decision transferring to this magnificent school. Right from the start I made my own legacy of being the girl who either one, was always smiling or always singing.

I was granted the opportunity for the first time ever to sing The National Anthem at the Boys Basketball classic game at the UIC Forum. The crowd was huge. Although I was nervous this was a very rewarding experience and because of this I got a lot of press. The very next year I got invited back again to sing the National Anthem. At this particular game somebody from the IHSA saw me singing and said I need to have her. She needs to sing at the IHSA Championship Basketball Game. This opportunity has not only allowed me to be the first  African American but first  African American female to sing at a IHSA  Championship Basketball Game. When I leave, my legacy around Whitney Young would be the small girl with the big voice singing The National Anthem. Being here at Whitney Young there has been many doors that I have been opened for me and it allowed me to expand my singing career.

I’m going to miss it here. I’m going to miss being in the Spring Dance show and all the choir concerts. I am going to miss the school spirit and the community that this school has shown to me. I know for a fact that Whitney Young has prepared me for adulthood and for college. They have given me many different opportunities and key that are sure to stay with me for a lifetime. Unfortunately my time here at at Whitney Young has come to an end but, I am glad that I made the right decision on transferring to the best school in the city of Chicago.
