The Chicago Blackhawks have for years been a bottom-feeder in the NHL. But when they won 6 Stanley Cups in 3 years, they were one of if not THE most popular sports team in the city. More recently, the Blackhawks have selected hockey phenom Connor Bedard, their first No. #1 overall pick since team legend Patick Kane in 2007. Here is a preview of the Blackhawks season, and future as a franchise.
Connor Bedard is one of the most-hyped prospects I´ve ever seen. The Blackhawks have a real stud in him and I honestly believe he stays healthy and on the team for most of his career, he could win at least three or four Stanley Cups by the time he is done. Obviously, the Blackhawks are not going to win the championship this season, but if they play their cards right, we could see a championship in 5 years.
This season however could be a long haul. The best idea in my opinion would be to tank again, but really develop Connor Bedard. If they want that 5-year championship, they need to build a better team. They have a sublime cap situation, and if you pair that with a high draft pick, don´t screw anything up terribly, you could see a playoff team in 2024. They really need to start winning quickly, or the situation they have right now could spiral out of control. Connor Bedard is the hope of the organization, and if the Hawks use him wrong, they could be set back years.
Honestly, the season looks pretty bleak. The Blackhawks are not favored to do basically anything this year, and are favored to be bottom five in the league again. But one thing only is important for me to see: Connor Bedard should get at least 100 points. I mean, he’s one of the most hyped prospects of all time. He should definitely reach that benchmark, or at least come close. That should happen for a successful Blackhawks season.
