Over the weekend, the boy’s basketball season came to an end. The Ballin’ Dolphins defeated the Simeon Wolverines on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Chicago State University to win the Class 4A Super-Sectional title. That victory allowed them to advance downstate to play in the final four game at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Illinois on Friday, March 16, 2018.

The Dolphins faced the Wildkits of Evanston Township High School to secure a spot in the championship. They were victorious over the underclassmen-led team by a score of 62-56. Senior guard, Javon Freeman, had the most points of the night, scoring 25. Freeman said, “It feels amazing that I get a chance to play in the championship game two years in a row.”

The championship game was played against Belleville High School-West on Saturday, March 17, 2018. The Dolphins fought hard the whole game, but unfortunately lost in overtime to the Maroons by a score of 60-56. This was the end of the road for 7 seniors on the team. Senior managers, Isaiah Holmes and William Rosado, finished off the season along with seniors, Javon Freeman, Jake Kosakowski, Justin Boyd, Tyler Bady, and Xavier Castaneda. Castaneda said, “It was a great four years and although we did not finish off how we wanted, I learned a lot, had a lot of fun, and am excited to play on the collegiate level next season.”

The Dolphins finished with a record of 28-8, playing teams from all around the country. It was a great finish to the season, despite the outcome.
