The best places to eat lunch: Whitney Young edition

Calyn Jael O'Banion, Editor

As I walked across the bridge one day during my lunch, I happened to glance over my shoulder where I saw a peculiar thing. Gunn Kim ‘23, the avid lunch eater pictured above, was nonchalantly relaxing in the window crevice on the Bridge. I had never seen anything like this in all my years at Whitney Young, so naturally I was curious and decided to talk to him. When asked why he chose to sit in the window, he promptly responded, “This spot has the best view.” And he was right. As I turned to see the view for myself, I was presented with the awe-inspiring view of Chicago’s skyline. Gunn told me, “I feel like I get a break from the world for a few minutes when I’m up here.” Surely all of us want to find our safe spot from the pressures and demands of our school.

After my chat with Gunn, I decided to do some research and find out other people’s favorite lunch spots in the school. Contrary to Gunn’s place of serenity, Sarah Williams ‘18, a Varsity Tennis State Champion, shared “ I eat in Red or Blue house because my friends eat there and it’s closest to the parking lot so it’s easier and I don’t have to walk as much.”

I’m curious to know where you eat! Email me at [email protected] and let me know your thoughts!
