Over the weekend, just days after hurricane Maria left the island of Puerto Rico devastated,  President Trump took to Twitter to comment on the disaster.  Instead of providing aid and reassurance that the island needs at this tough time, Trump used 140 characters to criticize the mayor of Puerto Rico.  He claimed that they weren’t providing their best efforts and helping their people.  Trump himself was then publicly criticized for spending this time on a golf resort instead of tending to the matters at hand.   He went on to call the media “fake news” and told the people of Puerto Rico that his men are there and doing a great job.  This brought more backlash due to his lack of realization that 95% of the island was without electricity and resources.  Trump’s ignorant comments and disregard of these issues provoked many to call out trump.

Madison Beckham 18’ stated “He has put forth no effort to help the people of Puerto Rico compensate for this tragedy, it was very inconsiderate of him”.  So far it seems as though Trump has failed to bring the nation together in a time of tragedy, but rather has divided it.
