Top 5 Reasons to Consider Work Study Programs

Vanessa McKibben

After three years in high school, most students are just about ready to leave and go into the real world already. Lucky for us, there’s a solution to that yearning and it’s called work study. Work study is basically an internship where you’ll not only get paid, but also get school credits. Here are the top five reasons why you should consider taking up work study.

  1. You get real world experience:
How else can you get a job these days? When you’re only seventeen or eighteen with no experience nobody wants to hire you. Signing up for a work study program gives you a fighting chance at a job.
  2. You can connect with people in the business world:
Work study interns work all over the city. People work in renowned law firms, PepsiCo, and so many others. The connections you make in these huge companies can be of use to you forever.
  3. You only have to take four classes:
Most seniors are already tired of three years of seven hours in school for five days a week for nine months a year. Let’s get a break from the school scene, cut your day in half.
  4. Bragging rights:
Next time your aunt bothers you at the family reunion, you can actually say something more than what grade you’re in now. To be seventeen or eighteen with a job in an established company is a guaranteed conversations starter.
  5. You get paid!
Does this even need to be explained?

Work study is an amazing opportunity that every junior should look into. You’ll be able to get experience that you can’t learn in school, you can get out of school, and make a couple extra bucks while you’re at it! So what do you say, is work study right for you?
