Top 5 Egg Tarts

Chinatown in Chicago has many places where you could order an egg tart.  An egg tart is a desert with a flaky crust and a sweet egg custard in the middle.  The middle is comparable with flan.  I went to 5 different locations to find out the question, Which bakery has the best egg tart.  I critiqued each desert based on the crispness of the crust, the flavor of the middle, and other factor including price and presentation.

5. China Cafe.  The egg tart was overpriced at $1.24.  The middle looked unnaturally orange, had very little flavor and the crust was a bit too flaky.

4. Eldo.  The egg tart was an even $1.  The middle custard appeared and tasted burnt.  The crust was soggy.  Overall, it did not taste good, but at least it looked natural.

3. Chiu Quon Bakery.  Priced at $1.10, it was the biggest in size.  The crust was perfectly crispy, however, the middle did not have enough sugar and tasted mediocre.

2. Tasty Place.  Reasonably priced at $0.90, this egg tart had a sweet middle and a crispy crust.  It was a great tasting egg tart.

1. Fieda Bakery.  The cheapest egg tart at $0.85, the crust was crispy and flaky and the middle was cooked to perfection.  The egg custard was firm and just sweet enough for my tastebuds.  This was the best looking and tasting egg tart of the 5 that I tried.  If you desire to try an egg tart, I highly recommend you try Fieda Bakery, the cheapest egg tart, but the most delicious.

You will not be disappointed with any of the five egg tarts.  They are all edible and are a relatively cheap desert to enjoy.  I hope you will try an egg tart whenever you are in Chinatown.
