Cederick Currin: Silent Baller

img_4823-pngHave you ever wondered what your fellow faculty and staff were like when they were in high school? Which ones do you think had the most interesting high school career? Our group of students attacked these questions deciding to interview Cederick Currin, a Whitney Young security guard. We found out a lot of interesting information from him. Of course,a big question many might have wondered opened up the floor for us.

We asked him, “Have you always been deaf?” He answered, “No I lost my hearing at about 3 years old.”  Another common misunderstanding some people have is that they thought that Cederick went to WY as a student. We originally wanted to ask him questions about his experience here when later in our questioning he said “ I attended Indiana school for the deaf in Indianapolis, Indiana.”

Once we found out he didn’t go to WY our questions shifted to more of his personal high school life. Something people might not know about Cederick is he played basketball in high school, starting at the point guard position. This began to make our group curious towards how he became a security guard. He didn’t quite give us a complete answer to how but you can kind of tell how much he enjoyed his job. He even said he “wouldn’t change his job for anything in the world.”

This interview showed us and perhaps others rounding the edge, choosing what college  to attend that when picking professions we should pick something that we love and can stay in forever. Just more evidence  proving a career is much better than a job.
