I love lunchtime. I get so excited when it is time to eat. My love for food is
unmatched. For lunch, I will either order $25 worth of Uber Eats or my mom will pack my lunch. Somedays I get Chick-fil-a and on other days I will feast on last night’s chicken and rice. Yet, after every delicious meal, I leave it behind. Because I’m done. When I wake up in the morning, I make myself cereal. I am always rushing and don’t have enough time to put the milk back. But when I get back home, it is off the counter and back in the refrigerator. When I get home from school, I take my clothes off and leave them on the bathroom floor. The next thing I know, they have disappeared. Everything I leave out ends up walking back to where it belongs. How mag- ical! It is only safe to assume that the same thing will happen any- where I go, right? Yup! Once I’m done with my crispy chicken sandwich with no pickles, medi- um fry, and medium lemonade with light ice, I leave it. Because my food is so smart. It knows when I am done and how to throw itself away. This is amazing.

Also, why throw my stuff away if no one else does? I don’t want to look like a loser. I have a new visitor at my lunch table every day. We must sit and chat about the latest lesson in Study Hall. Besides, I’m a busy teenager. I don’t have time to gather my garbage, walk four feet to the trash can and throw it away. There are only so many hours in a day. Everyone has a job at this place. Mr. Cassidy is paid to give students the key to life-long success. Mr. Gucciardi is supposed to get students to win an Oscar award. Our principal is supposed to do principal things. My job… is to be a student. I came to Whitney Young to cultivate my mind: socialize, eat lunch, play sports, and get into college. I don’t have time to think about trash.
