National Geographic: One of the best education websites

Being educated is one of the best things that anyone can do, that’s why The Beacon is showcasing the National Geographic website. National Geographic Society has been around since the late 1800s, and ever since then, they have helped educate generations about our world and the history of it. National Geographic Society also launched the History, the media company in 1995. That same year, they launched the History network that was to air on its own TV Channel. In the late early 2000s, National Geographic launched their self-named TV channel that was aimed to have original programs to educate those about wildlife and nature.

Both websites, History and National Geographic, have several tabs on their homepage that are easily accessible and understandable to any of their users. The websites have sectioned topics, including news, today in history, local, and discover. The topics have vivid images that help capture the reader’s attention on the site. Overall, the websites are structured to showcase something different on a daily basis.

The Beacon asked several students what they thought about the National Geographic website and if they believed it was informational and/or educational. An avid user of the site, Ingrid Martinez ’22 said she finds “National Geographic isn’t just educational or a good tool to learn, but it’s fun because they even have small games like crossword puzzles and word search for when you’re bored” Learning about this made The Beacon find that there is another tab for games within the National Geographic website. Most students also agreed, fashionista Noah Shelton ‘22 said “ I think that they are very educational, I used to read National Geographic articles for kids back when I was in grade school. Plus, recently I quoted them for a Global Citizenship class!” Even writer Hadassah Amara ‘22 stated “National Geographic and History are the best sites for researching. I used them all the time for my essays and projects, I think really anyone should use them!” Having educational websites like these is incredibly useful and beneficial for any student when wanting to learn, read and research.
