Kanye Kool-aid

Kanye West, or Ye, or Yeezus is a man known by many names. He is one of the most influential rap artists of our generation. He has given us albums we come to love and know such as Late Registration and he broke barriers in more controversial pieces like Yeezus. Most love Kanye’s music but not so much as to what he says outside of his artwork. “I no longer respect Kanye, his comment on slavery was too. much” said Joshua Bobbitt, ‘20” and “Kanye is an egotistical maniac,” said Olivia Jackson ‘21, are prevalent comments that have come up after Kanye has said or done something problematic.

Kanye’s latest stunt is his “Sunday Service” program. Sunday Service is Kanye touring around with a choir singing gospel songs or gospel versions of his own songs. This Service originally started in LA where Kanye hosted his service in the desert where only the most exclusive celebrities were invited to attend. Soon the service was opened to the public, for free, but there was merchandise being sold for an exorbitant price. This raises the question of Kanye being corrupt and using the church for profit. Simone Benard, ‘25, said the Sunday Service“Kanye is weird and Sunday Service is culty.” This cult vibe in Kanye’s service is the main reason he’s getting backlash. Is he preaching the word of the Lord or the word of Ye?
