Cold Chicago Weather

We all have at least heard of global warming. Whether you believe it or not is completely up to you. Those who do believe in the harmful effects of global warming see it as the cause for the polar ice caps to melt. There is something referred to as the polar vortex which is a funnel of cold air that is rotating clockwise around the North Pole area. Yet, with global warming there is a weakness in the vortex force. Which led for cold air to break off and be sent in our direction. Therefore, blame the polar vortex and global warming for those bitter cold days last week!

The cold affected many people last week. Priscilla Kwan ‘19 said “It was absolutely freezing. I had plans on Wednesday after school but completely avoided going outside at all cost and canceled them”. Many people had the opportunity to escape the cold yet for many others the cold air was too much and caused many fatalities. The New York Times stated “The Illinois Department of Public Health said at least 30 people statewide had been to emergency rooms for frostbite or hypothermia-related visits by Wednesday morning” (A Merciless Cold Lingers in the Midwest, 2019).

Let’s hope that we never have another winter like this again!
