Even though we are in the midst of winter and runners all around are gearing up for the upcoming track season, a few cross country runners have prolonged their season to participate in the Great Edinburgh Cross Country International Challenge.  This event is held in Edinburgh, Scotland.  Of the many races which took place at the event, Clayton Mendez ‘18 raced in the Junior Men’s 6K.  He, along with a few runners from all across the country represented the U.S. and faced off against teams from Europe, Great Britain, and many others.  Mendez placed 15th out of 48 runners, running a time of 20:24.  Overall, the U.S.A. team placed 3rd following Great Britain (2nd) and Europe (3rd). Mendez had this to say about his race, “The race was incredibly hard, the Europeans have a broad range of talent, I got a one of a kind experience I hope will take me even further in the years to come.  Don’t count on this as being my last international race I compete in.  I plan on flying out many more times”

After having a unique experience, Clayton is now training for the upcoming track season.  Teammate Charlie Nevins’ 19 is very excited to see what he can do. “After seeing Clay in cross country, I can only imagine what he can do in track.  Watch out for him”

In the fall of 2018, Clayton will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Stanford University.
